VAC coverage

Money shouldn't be the reason this waits another year.

Most veterans with approved VAC mental health benefits pay nothing out of pocket — sessions are billed directly to Medavie Blue Cross. The only thing standing between you and that is a number on a letter.

How it works

Three steps, and none of them are yours to chase.

1. Find your K number

Any VAC letter, your decision letter, or My VAC Account. It looks like K1234567. If you genuinely can't find it, say so on the consult form and it can be worked out with you.

2. Send it through

Use the short form below. It goes nowhere except this practice, and it's used only to verify your psychotherapy benefit with VAC / Medavie Blue Cross.

3. Get a straight answer

You'll hear what's covered, how many sessions are authorised, and what happens next — usually within one business day.

Check your coverage now

Two minutes. No obligation to book anything afterwards.

Check your VAC coverage

Share your K number and we'll confirm with VAC / Medavie Blue Cross whether your psychotherapy sessions are covered — usually within one business day — so the paperwork is settled before your first session.

Your information is sent privately to us and used only to verify coverage. Nothing is shared with third parties beyond VAC/Medavie billing.

If you're paying privately

The plain numbers.

  • $275 per 50-minute session for clients without VAC coverage.
  • No HST — psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist is exempt in Canada.
  • Extended health plans, including many employer plans held by veterans in second careers, commonly reimburse psychotherapy in whole or in part.
  • Receipts are issued after every session for reimbursement.
  • If the fee is the barrier, say so on the consult call — options get discussed honestly rather than avoided.

Book yourself in

Book while the coverage check runs.

You don't have to wait for the paperwork to be settled before talking to someone. Book a free consult and the coverage will catch up.

Request your free consult

Send this and we come back to you with times, usually within one business day. No cost, no obligation, and nothing else happens unless you want it to.

Goes to info@veteranstherapycanada.ca. Used only to arrange your consult — no marketing list, no sharing.

FAQ

Coverage questions, answered plainly

What is a K number?
It's the client number Veterans Affairs Canada issues you. It usually appears as a K followed by seven digits on VAC letters and inside My VAC Account. It identifies you to VAC and to Medavie Blue Cross, who administer the treatment benefits.
Why do you need it before my first session?
So coverage is confirmed in advance and you never get a surprise invoice. With your K number your psychotherapy benefit can be verified and sessions billed directly to Medavie Blue Cross.
What if I don't have a K number yet?
You can still book. Many veterans start therapy while their VAC application or disability benefit claim is in progress. You'll get a straight explanation of your options, including how sessions can support a claim, before any money is discussed.
How many sessions does VAC cover?
VAC mental health benefits typically authorise a block of psychotherapy sessions, extendable when clinically indicated. The exact number depends on your approved benefits; it will be checked and explained to you rather than left vague.
Do serving members and RCMP have coverage too?
Serving CAF members are generally covered through CFHS pathways rather than VAC, and RCMP members are covered through the RCMP's Medavie Blue Cross program. Both are checked the same way before you start.
What if I'm not covered at all?
You'll be told plainly. The private fee is $275 per 50-minute session, extended health benefits often reimburse sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist, and psychotherapy in Ontario is HST-exempt. If cost is the barrier, say so on the consult call.
